~ Mama's Twins ~

Raymond and I always dressed exactly the same
as youngsters. Mom sewed shirts for us as extra money was something we did without for many years. We'd go grocery shopping with her, and she'd always introduce us as her twins. They'd say, "Lois, I never knew you had twins".
She would add, "Yes, they are, and they are only separated by 11 months". She'd leave them standing in the aisle, trying to figure it all out.
Mother had a way with words like no other.

 Dear Mom,

......We may not have been twins as you once joked about, but love, we are about as close to being twins as twins can ever be....

Me, My Brother and I ...

Dear Raymond,

As you know, Bubba, I have no way to ever repay you for your unselfish gift of life you so eagerly gave to me. All I can offer to you is my undying love, my respect, my gratitude and my humble heart. I do want you to know, however, that if you ever need a kidney, my brother, God gave me two. If you ever need a lung, my dear friend, of these He also gave me two. However, if you ever need a portion of my liver, you just may want to think about that one for a while, Bubba.

But God in His infinite wisdom, for which I sometimes struggle to understand, has given me only one heart. This too, my strength, belongs to you. You may think I'm crazy, and we've had this talk before, but if you should ever have the misfortune to ever need a new heart, mine, my sweet brother, belongs to you. Bubba. There is no greater love, than for a brother to lay down his life for another, for without this sacrifice you made for me, I would not be here today. Please understand, best friend, that I now count all my days as blessings and as "overtime", in this game of life we play.

With what's left of  life that life has to offer us, my sweet brother, let's play on ...

My DNA is 100% your DNA now. My blood type was A+ and is now completely yours. Remember Bubba, you will never find another donor on this planet so closely matched to you. I will be here as long as God is willing, but until then my friend, I'll be here for you.

Again, I don't know how I could ever, ever repay you, dear one, but know this well, "my twin", this heart, which has oft' been broken, now belongs to you.

Your "Bubba",
Robert

P. S.  To whom it may concern: This stands as a legal document which I have personally prepared. Should I somehow become incapacitated and am put on life support and should my brother need a replacement organ at that time, I wish my organs to be offered first to him.

I'm a donor...
