A
soldier on his R & R will usually find a USO club to meet local girls and have a good time.
Such is the story of my brother, Raymond. In 1970 while on his "Week in Heaven", he met his future bride to be, though neither
knew it then. When he returned to the states, he was stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia just outside Washington DC and he got
a letter from one of the two sisters he had met in Sydney telling him that her sister would be working for the Australian
Consulate in DC. He re-acquainted himself with her and the other arrived a few months later to visit her sister. She left
when her 6 mo visa was up and returned home to Sydney. They both knew they had fallen in love and that no matter of distance
would keep them apart. They were married a year later, lived here for 10 yrs, and have been in Australia ever since.
Though he has never lived in Pennsylvania, he is welcomed to make his home here
upon his return,
whenever that
may be.
Although he may want to return to the states some day, this may be the precious reason he may not.
His first granddaughter.
